We asked Raranga Matihiko’s Tara Fagan how she spends her working days.
Q: What did you think you would be when you grew up?
A: An astronaut
Q: What is your mahi?
A: Designing and leading learning programmes. Lots of cool tech and people involved.
Q: What is the favourite part of your job?
A: Getting to be creative and exploring possibilities of how tech can help learning.
Q: What set you on your career path?
A: Being involved in Playcentre with my own tamariki.
Q: What do you do when you are not working?
A: Spend time with family, at the beach and gardening
Q: How do you harness creativity at work and in life?
A: Ensure there is time to play, explore and tinker.
Q: What does Techweek2021’s theme: Connecting for a Better future Te honohono mo te heke mai pai ake mean to you?
A: Making the most of relationships. We all have strengths and working together enables the best of these. Connecting with each other, whether face-to-face or via tech, helps us all grow as we design exciting futures.
Q: What do you think the future of work will be like?
A: We can only dream, but hopefully one where we have a good work/life balance, equity and ongoing learning.
Q: What is your key advice for ākonga considering their future?
A: Don’t be afraid to give things a go.
Q: What technology could you simply not live without?
A: My iPhone.
